CFPC Member, Dr Wendy Norman Honoured by the Guttmacher Institute

(January 20, 2016) Mississauga, ON – The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) congratulates College member and Chair of the Section of Researchers, Dr Wendy Norman, on being announced the recipient of the 2015 Darroch Award.

The Darroch Award, sponsored by the Guttmacher Institute, recognizes an emerging leader who is a researcher in the field of sexual and reproductive health, where scientific evidence is essential to guiding the policies and programs of the future.

Over her 30-year career as a family physician and researcher in British Columbia,

Dr Norman has demonstrated outstanding leadership in striving to improve reproductive health care and in developing policy to increase access to family planning services.  Among Dr Norman’s many roles, she is the director of family practice research training at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and director of the Canadian Contraception Research Team–Groupe de recherche sur l’accessibilité à la contraception (CART-GRAC), a national network of researchers and health care experts. 

“The CFPC is extremely proud of Dr Norman’s dedication to enhancing reproductive care, research and teaching, as well as her efforts to address inequalities in access to services across Canada,” says CFPC Executive Director and CEO, Dr Francine Lemire, MD CM, CCFP, FCFP, CAE. “The recognition of Dr. Norman on an international stage with the Darroch Award is a testament to the impact and importance of her work.”
