physicians need to improve health care to
patients?
The 2010 National Physician

important opportunity for current and future physicians

and access to health care. A collaborative
effort of The College of Family Physicians of Canada,

The Research and
Education Foundation Imagine If
Campaign
Over the past decade,
through the generosity of donors, The Research and
Education Foundation (REF) of the College of Family
Physicians of Canada (CFPC) has funded hundreds of
awards, grants and scholarships. These have supported
research and continuing education initiatives of family
physicians, clinicians, researchers and teachers, as
well as family medicine residents and medical students
from all parts of the country. IMAGINE IF
EVERY CFPC MEMBER CONTRIBUTED "Imagine If" every
CFPC member were to contribute $25 or more to the REF,
that would be more than $50,000 to support family
physicians in meeting the changing needs of their
community. THE GOAL IS TO RAISE $50,000
The REF is asking each CFPC member to give to
the REF Imagine If campaign. Please help the REF make a
big difference in family medicine. The REF is the only
registered charity in Canada that represents and raises
precious funds for family medicine research and
education. Make a donation now. A tax
receipt will be issued electronically for donations of
$25 or more. Thank you for supporting the REF and
making a difference in family medicine!

Would you like to
learn more about the Museum of Health
Care?
The Museum of Health Care
in Kingston, Ontario is now in its 20th year. The museum
was founded with the goal of becoming the premier
institution devoted to the preservation of the history
and legacy of health care in Canada. The
museum's collection, which now numbers in excess of
30,000 artefacts, is representative of all health care
disciplines. The collection is available on the museum's
website www.museumofhealthcare.ca and at Artefacts Canada. With its
images and identifiers, the museum's collection is a
resource used increasingly by students, professionals
and the public in Canada and beyond. The
Museum of Health Care also organizes exhibits, public
programs and research fellowships. With these resources
it is uniquely positioned to enhance public
understanding of the history of health care in Canada
while continuing to serve as a resource for scholarly
work. The Museum of Health Care is seeking
the support of health care professionals and their
national organizations to reach and maintain its goal of
becoming the leading institution preserving the history
of health care in Canada. The CFPC supports the
work being undertaken by the Museum of Health Care as a
national resource. "As professionals, many of us
do not know enough about our history, suggests Dr.
Francine Lemire, CFPC Associate Executive Director,
Professional Affairs. "We should be supporting
those organizations and institutions that are engaged in
capturing the history of health care in our
country." If you would like to consider
supporting the museum as an individual you can become a
member of the museum by purchasing an individual
membership, or become a donor or supporter through the
museum's
website. |

A REMINDER: Did you complete the
National Survey on Management of Chronic Non-cancer
Pain? The provincial regulatory
colleges, via the National Opioid Use Guideline Group
(NOUGG) are working with Dr Michael Allen, a family
physician at Dalhousie University CME to determine
family physicians' prescribing practices in managing
chronic non-cancer pain. This is a research study that
is part of Dr Allen's MSc thesis.
The CFPC
supports this initiative and has representation on the
work of NOUGG.
NOUGG has developed an online
survey that takes 5 to 15 minutes to complete, depending
on your responses. If you are a family physician who
manages patients with chronic non-cancer pain, they
invite you to participate in this survey. All responses
are anonymous and the survey has been reviewed by the
Dalhousie Research Ethics Board.
