Pre Exam
Q. Will you book my flight and hotel accommodation?
A. No, candidates are responsible for making their own travel arrangements.
Q. What is the earliest time that I can book my return flight?
A. You should not arrange your flight to depart before 8 p.m. on Saturday or before 6 p.m. on Sunday, unless you have been informed otherwise.
Q. Will I receive a registration card for admittance to the examination centre?
A. No, we do not provide you with a registration card. You will be required to sign in under your photo to register.
Q. When will I receive my oral examination schedule?
A. You will receive your oral examination schedule on Friday morning when you register for the written examination.
Q. Do you provide any resources to help me prepare for the examination?
A. You can find examples of short answer management problems and a video demonstration of a simulated office oral along with suggested resources to help you prepare for the examination on the College’s website.
Q. Do you hold any workshops to help me prepare for the examination?
A. You should contact the family or emergency medicine programs at the Universities or the Provincial Chapters of the College to inquire about any upcoming workshops that they may have scheduled.
Exam
Q. What do I do with my personal belongings at the examination site?
A. You must leave your personal belongings in the designated area at the examination site. The College is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or broken personal property.
Q. What should I bring to the examination?
A. You do not need to bring anything to the examination as we will provide you with all necessary resources. For your reference, the following lists include prohibited and allowable items:
Allowable items:
- A watch; however, the timer at the written and oral examinations is the official timekeeper and take precedence.
- A bottle of water in a clear container with the label removed.
- A sweater, cardigan or jacket (must be placed under the chair when not in use).
- A pen (pencils, erasers and sharpeners are provided).
Prohibited Items:
- All electronic devices including, but not limited to cell phones, personal digital assistants, pagers, calculators, voice recorders/players, etc.
- Food should not be consumed during the examination. However, for candidates with special dietary requirements, arrangements should be made with the College prior to the examination. If approved by the College, the food must be in a clear plastic bag.
Q. Can I bring a calculator to the exam?
A. No, you cannot bring a calculator or any electronic devices including, but not limited to, cell phones, personal digital assistants, pagers, voice recorder/players, to the examination.
Q. Will breakfast and lunch be provided at the examination sites?
A. No.
Q. Do I need to wear my name tag at the exam centre?
A. Yes, name tags must be worn at all times during the written and oral examination.
Q. Are the oral examinations recorded?
A. No, the oral examinations are not recorded. Video equipment/viewing mirrors are used for validating examiners’ performances and not the candidates’ performances.
Q. Can I get information about my performance on the oral exams from the examiner?
A. No, examiners are not permitted to provide any information to you.
Post Exam
Q. Can I receive my exam results over the phone?
A. Results will not be released by telephone, fax or email. All candidates may access their results online and by mail six to eight weeks after the examination. You will receive email notification when the results are available.
Q. Will you notify the Medical Regulatory Authority when I am certified?
A. As soon as your certification is awarded to you, we will inform all medical regulatory authorities in Canada.
Q. When will I receive my certificate?
A. New recipients of Certification in The College of Family Physicians (CCFP) who have successfully completed the spring examination will receive their certificates at the convocation ceremony held annually in the fall at the Family Medicine Forum. If you choose not to attend convocation, we will mail your certificate to you immediately following convocation. New CCFP recipients who wrote the examination in the fall will receive their certificates by mail approximately eight to 10 weeks after the release of the results.
