Honours

These are some of the College’s most prestigious awards, recognizing excellence and honouring achievement in family medicine:

Canada’s Family Physicians of the Year – the Reg L. Perkin Awards

These awards recognize outstanding CFPC family physician members, one in each province, who exemplify the best of what being a family doctor is all about. 

W. Victor Johnston Award

Recognizing a renowned Canadian or international family medicine leader for continuous and enduring contributions to the specialty of family medicine in Canada or abroad.

Donald I. Rice Award

Recognizing an outstanding CFPC family physician member who has contributed to teaching, vision and leadership in the discipline of family medicine.  

Jean-Pierre Despins Award

Recognizing a CFPC family physician member who is an outstanding advocate and public spokesperson for family medicine, family physicians and patients.

Honorary Membership

Recognizing individuals who are not family physicians in Canada, who have made outstanding contributions to the CFPC, the discipline of family medicine, the health system, or the health and well-being of the population in Canada or abroad. 

CFPC Scotiabank Family Medicine Lectureship

Recognizing an outstanding Canadian or international figure who has contributed significantly to issues related to the health and well-being of people in Canada and/or around the world. 

Ian McWhinney Family Medicine Education Award

This award recognizes an outstanding family medicine teacher deemed by his/her peers to have made a unique and innovative contribution which has had a significant national impact on the development of family medicine education in Canada. 

Family Medicine Researcher of the Year

This award recognizes a family medicine researcher who has made original contributions to research and knowledge building for family medicine in Canada and has been a pivotal force in the definition, development and dissemination of concepts central to the discipline of family medicine. 

Fellowship in the College of Family Physicians of Canada

Conferred upon certificant members in good standing who have maintained their Certification for a minimum of 10 consecutive years and have included 25 Mainpro-C activities for two consecutive five-year cycles.

Life Membership of the College of Family Physicians of Canada

Awarded to those who have attained the age of 70 or greater and have been CFPC members in good standing for at least 10 consecutive years
