yordan karaivanovA medical graduate of Sofia Medical University, Bulgaria, Dr. Yordan Karaivanov received Certification in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) in 2002, and he became a Fellow in 2013.

Dr. Karaivanov’s practice consists of office-based care, obstetrics, emergency medicine, and inpatient care. He works at the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

In addition to his work at the Labrador Health Centre, Dr. Karaivanov provides health care to prisoners at the local correctional centre. He also serves the Innu people in the community of Sheshatshiu, and is currently working on two randomized controlled trials within the community on improving diabetes care.

Dr. Karaivanov is a clinical assistant professor with Memorial University of Newfoundland and teaches first- and second-year family medicine residents as well as medical students.

From 2007 to 2009, Dr. Karaivanov was a Board member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association (NLMA). In 2012, he rejoined the NLMA Board and in 2013 served as President. During that time, Dr. Karaivanov worked closely with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Family Physicians.

Dr. Karaivanov has participated on multiple committees of the Canadian Medical Association, NLMA, and his local hospital. Currently, he is a member of the Mental Health Committee and serves as chief of medical staff at the Labrador Health Center.

Dr. Karaivanov has served as a Director-at-Large with the CFPC’s Board of Directors since 2015.
