Indigenous Student Leadership Award

This award is supported by the Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine through the generosity of Scotiabank and members of the CFPC.

This award recognizes the leadership abilities of an outstanding Indigenous student in their final year of study currently enrolled in one of the 17 Canadian medical schools.

The award recipient will be invited to attend Family Medicine Forum (FMF) in Montréal, November 8-11, 2017; the Medical Student and Family Medicine Resident Leadership Workshop; and to other special events for students and residents at FMF.

Selection Process:

A selection committee comprised of student and faculty representatives at each Canadian medical school is asked to identify their nominees for an Indigenous Student Leadership Award. The nominee is not required to match to the same university in order to be considered.

Nomination Process:

A reference letter from a preceptor of the elective in Indigenous health (preceptor may or may not be Indigenous themselves) and/or a scholarly project supervisor indicating leadership in the area of Indigenous Health. This letter of support is an important component in the selection process and should include sufficient information on your candidate’s leadership skills to support the nomination.

Nominations must be submitted online. The deadline is July 6, 2017, 4pm EST/EDT
. The Honours and Awards Committee will approve the nominations for these awards and inform the recipients in July.
