Addiction Medicine Mission Statement

Substance use disorders are a major cause of morbidity, mortality and health care utilization in Canada. Family physicians play a critical role in reducing the harms caused by substance use, through screening and identification, counseling, pharmacotherapy, and treatment of complications. The mission of the Addiction Medicine Program is to advocate for sound public health policies, to promote training and education of family medicine residents and physicians in the management of substance use disorders, and to facilitate networking within the profession to achieve these goals.
