Call for expressions of interest: Join the Member Interest Groups Section Council

Looking to increase your leadership skills? Consider this new opportunity within the Member Interest Groups Section (MIGS)!

The MIGS supports the College of Family Physicians of Canada’s (CFPC) dedication to providing a professional home for family physicians with diverse clinical and non-clinical interests and practice types.

We are looking to fill the following positions on the MIGS Council, commencing March 2020:

  • Member-at-Large—defined as family physicians with a broad scope family practice; four positions
    • Two members will have a two-year term (renewable once)
    • Two members will have a three-year term (renewable once)

The Council will be leading the newly redesigned Section by supporting the existing 19 MIGs and its expansion to better support member’s practice.

We have a new name: the Member Interest Groups Section!

This June the Section of Communities of Practice in Family Medicine will begin transitioning to become the Member Interest Groups Section (MIGS). This concludes a 16-month review process that was designed to guide the expansion of the Section beyond the 19 programs and 10,000 members it currently supports.

The strategic review undertaken—which involved extensive consultations with committee members, CFPC physician leaders, CFPC staff, and external organizations—highlighted the need for greater awareness of the Section and a broader mandate. Redesigning the Section allows the CFPC to address the wide and evolving interests of our members and to continue supporting members in a modern online community.

The Section’s new name marks the first stage of this transition. Input from CFPC members who currently participate on the Section’s committees drove the selection of the name, as our goal is to have it represent what the redesigned Section offers to members.

Over the next few months the Section will roll out more information to showcase additional changes.

Member Interest Groups Section (MIGS) – Enhanced Clinical Sessions

The Member Interest Groups Section (MIGS) comprises a number of programs, each of which addresses a particular area of special interest of our members.

These programs cover a range of areas that members have asked us to include - be they part of their comprehensive care practices or in some cases major or full-time commitments. The CFPC remains committed to comprehensive continuing care.

Family Physicians with special interests are those family doctors with traditional comprehensive continuing care family practices who act as the personal physicians for their patients and whose practices include one or more areas of special interest as integrated parts of the broad scope of services they provide.

Family physicians with focused practices are those family doctors with a commitment to one or more specific clinical areas as major part-time or full-time components of their practices.
