December 2015

Jennifer Hall, MD, CCFP, FCFP, President

It is a great honour to have been installed as the 62nd president of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. I am looking forward to meeting with family physicians from across the country over the next year.

As I reflect on the exciting activities of Family Medicine Forum (FMF) in Toronto in November, I was struck by the depth of the commitment of family physicians for high-quality continuing professional development (CPD). Members from across the country participated in and presented relevant, evidence-influenced posters, presentations, and workshops. Many sessions were either full or overflowing.

We are excited for the launch of MainPro+™ on June 27, 2016. The new categories will allow members to earn credits for more activities and the online reporting tool will increase the efficiency of credit reporting. Mainpro+ will continue to be based on a 5-year reporting cycle, a minimum of 250 credits per cycle, and a minimum of 25 credits earned and reported annually.

In speaking with family physicians, residents, and students at FMF, I am aware that each has very different professional development needs. The specialty of family medicine is a complex one with many emerging issues that demand leadership from Canada’s family doctors. The College is responding to those needs by providing relevant tools and guides such as the Guide for Reflection on Ethical Issues Concerning Assisted Suicide and Voluntary Euthanasia prepared by the CFPC Task Force on End-of-Life Care, and Authorizing Dried Cannabis for Chronic Pain or Anxiety, prepared by members of the Addiction Medicine and Chronic Pain Program Committees in collaboration with members of the Child and Adolescent Health, Maternity and Newborn Care, Mental Health, Palliative Care, and Respiratory Medicine Program Committees.

I look forward to hearing from you and working together in the months ahead.

I wish you all the best for the Holiday Season! I hope you enjoy some time with friends and family during this special time of year.

Jennifer Hall, MD, CCFP, FCFP, President
