June 2018

Dear CFPC members:

From December 2017 through to early January 2018 we asked for your perceptions and comments on being a College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) member. We were delighted to learn that over80 per cent of you see the CFPC as the voice of family medicine.

As a family doctor, I know how important it is to feel that you have an organization speaking for
you, one that does its best to have your back.

Nearly 80 per cent of you understand the CFPC’s core mandate in defining standards for
certification, curriculum, and accreditation of family medicine residency programs. Making sure we
are training the best family doctors to meet the complex needs of patients is a job we take very

There are many more results we are proud of. And some where you told us we have more to do.

Many of you want us to advocate more on your behalf. About 40 per cent of you agreed or strongly
agreed that you are satisfied with the value you receive from your membership. Just over 20 per
cent disagreed, while 33 per cent neither agreed nor disagreed, which is a neutral response.

We need to do better and we are continuing to take steps to ensure you are aware of everything your CFPC has to offer. Rigorous standards of training, certification, and maintenance of certification are essential to validate what you do every day to care for patients.

In collaboration with our Chapters, we routinely raise family medicine issues with the federal and
provincial governments
. We are refreshing the Patient’s Medical Home, we are increasing our
capacity to provide you practice tools and guides, we speak out on matters of importance to family
, and more.

At the end of this year we are unveiling a new, easier to navigate CFPC website to serve you
better. In the meantime, we recommend that you browse the current website and check out
DiscoverCFPC to learn more about being a CFPC member.

As always, I welcome hearing from you. I and all staff at the CFPC thank you for being a part of
the CFPC family.
