Dr. Katherine Stringer is an associate professor and the Head of the Department of Family Medicine at Dalhousie University. Prior to a career change in 2009 that saw Dr. Stringer focus on academic family medicine, she worked as a fee-for-service family physician in both rural and urban locations. Before coming to Canada she was a general practitioner in South Africa, where she also completed diplomas in mental health, obstetrics, and child health through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. Dr. Stringer’s areas of interest include comprehensive family medicine, care of the elderly, primary care of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, competency-based medical education, and interprofessional education in health care.

Her aspirations for MIGS are “to be able to support all family physicians in a way that encourages collaboration and the development of communities of practice that enhance the practice of comprehensive family medicine.”
