This month’s issue launches a new series, Third Rail, as part of the Art of Family Medicine section. “Third rail” topics are ones we avoid because they invite argument, spark controversy, or are feared as taboo. The first article in this new series discusses the need for explicit protection of people with disabilities during pandemics. Gracing this month’s cover is Alex Coville’s Horse and Train 1954. The horse appears to be galloping toward danger, but the direction of the steam implies the train is stopped. Should we avoid dangerous topics or run toward them?
