New $10,000 grant aims to support racialized communities
2021-05-10
(Mississauga, ON) The Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine (FAFM) is proud to announce the launch of the Racialized Communities Leadership Grant in Family Medicine. This new opportunity is offered through the FAFM’s Honours and Awards Program and is generously supported by our long-standing partners Scotiabank and MD Financial Management Inc. (MD).
The grant has a value of $10,000 and will be awarded annually to fund one initiative designed to enhance the delivery of primary care benefiting one or more racialized communities in Canada. The initiative must be led by a member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada who self-identifies as First Nations, Métis, Inuit, Black, or a member of another racialized community.
“As part of our commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in family medicine, we are pleased to offer this new grant opportunity,” says FAFM Chair of the Board Jeanette Boyd, MD, CCFP, FCFP. “We thank our partners for generously supporting the creation of this award that recognizes the need to deliver culturally safe health care to individuals in racialized communities and adds to our efforts to end systemic racism in family medicine.”
The support from Scotiabank and MD is part of their broader commitment to making a positive difference in the physician community and helping empower the next generation of physicians through continuing professional development opportunities, scholarships, and awards in family medicine.
“We’re proud to work alongside MD Financial Management in supporting the Racialized Communities Leadership Grant in Family Medicine to strengthen the health and medical support of racialized communities,” says Executive Vice President and Head, Canadian Wealth Management, Scotiabank, Alex Besharat. “Thanks to the Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine for recognizing programs that support health equality.”
The FAFM is accepting applications for this grant from May 10, 2021, to June 11, 2021. For more information about the grant and application process visit our web page at https://fafm.cfpc.ca/h-a/project-development-support-programs/.
