Chapters and Sections

CFPC Provincial Chapters

As a Member of the CFPC, you are also a member of your provincial Chapter of the National College.* Each Chapter is represented on the CFPC Board of Directors. The CFPC and its Chapters work with federal and provincial governments, other health care organizations, and family medicine academic and research communities. Annual Scientific Assemblies (ASAs) are hosted each year to provide valuable CPD sessions, programs, and networking.

*Exceptions include Affiliate Specialist, Territorial, and Out-of-Country Members, where Chapter membership is encouraged but is optional. Associate and Public Members may opt in to belong to a Chapter of their choice.

Section of Researchers

The Section of Researchers promotes and facilitates family medicine research. Membership is open to any physician who is a member of the College and to professionals from other disciplines who have an interest in primary care research.

Section of Teachers

The Section of Teachers advances the academic discipline of family medicine within the framework of the CFPC’s educational objectives. Section membership is open to any physician who is a member of the College and to professionals from other disciplines who have an interest in family medicine education.

Section of Communities of Practice in Family Medicine (formerly the Section of Family Physicians with Special Interests or Focused Practices)

This Section is comprised of a number of programs for members with similar practice interests. Participation in this Section is open to all CFPC members.

Section of Residents

The Section of Residents serves as a liaison between the CFPC and family medicine residents throughout Canada. Two residents from each family medicine residency program in Canada are elected by their peers to form the Section of Residents Council. The Council is represented on the CFPC Board of Directors.

Section of Medical Students

The CFPC’s Section of Medical Students (SOMS) links the College with medical students in each medical school across Canada. The Section’s two co-chairs sit on the CFPC’s Board of Directors. SOMS membership is open to all medical students throughout Canada.
