About the CanMEDS Framework
CanMEDS is an initiative to improve patient care by enhancing physicians training and practice. The CanMEDS physician competency framework describes the abilities physicians need to provide optimal health care to Canadians. Created in the 1990s, CanMEDS has since become the most world’s most widely adopted physician competency framework.
Why is the CanMEDS framework being updated?
The CanMEDS Framework must help prepare physicians to meet societal needs in a dynamic and fast-moving health care environment. In recent years, we have seen a significant increase in important concepts related to the role of a physician. We are now looking into how best to incorporate these new concepts into training and practice.
