The CFPC advocates evidence-based solutions to family medicine crisis during Parliament Hill meetings

On May 2, 2023, representatives from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) met on Parliament Hill with ministers, members of Parliament, and Senators to discuss the state of family medicine in Canada. Attendees included Minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health and Addictions Dr. Carolyn Bennett, NDP health critic Don Davies, and Conservative shadow health minister Dr. Stephen Ellis.

The CFPC emphasized the urgent need for action in family medicine and called for action that addresses administrative burden, lack of interprofessional supports, and suboptimal remuneration for family doctors. The CFPC presented evidence-based recommendations aligning with Canada’s funding commitments focusing on access to family health services.

There was a positive response across political parties, with many stakeholders looking for ways to address Canada’s family medicine crisis.

The CFPC remains committed to representing the family medicine perspective and ensuring that family medicine priorities are robustly reflected in federal health funding deployed to the provinces to address most pressing areas of need.
