The College of Family Physicians of Canada implements immediate pause on family medicine residency extension

The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) is keenly aware of the crisis in health care and family medicine unfolding in Canada. We have heard loudly and clearly that there are concerns with the proposed family medicine residency extension. We recognize and value the input from all interested parties who contributed to the discussion. We share your commitment to the health professionals and patients in Canada.

Based on the feedback we have received we are pausing implementation at this time. Our work will shift to expanding engagement with key interest holders, including College members, before further action. The CFPC Board is meeting on November 6th and 7th and will discuss additional planning of this pause.

We look forward to communicating the next steps in this important work as these consultations progress.
