The CFPC and FAFM announce the retirement of Dr. Francine Lemire, Executive Director and CEO

2021-10-05

Dear colleagues,

Dr. Francine Lemire has announced her intention to end her tenure as Executive Director and CEO of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and the Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine (FAFM) at the end of June 2022.

Under Dr. Lemire’s leadership, the CFPC has grown substantially to keep pace with changes in family medicine. Among her accomplishments we acknowledge her outstanding contributions to recognizing family doctors with enhanced skills, increasing advocacy to support family physicians, advancing the implementation of the Patient’s Medical Home, and influencing the voice in global family medicine. Dr. Lemire has supported major advancements in professional development programs and resources for members, worked to address social determinants of health, and began laying the foundation to challenge systemic racism and oppression in family medicine. Her insights have been key to current initiatives to bring family medicine training into the future, modernize examinations, and enhance capacity in family medicine research.

Fundamental to the tremendous growth that has occurred during Dr. Lemire’s tenure were the full governance reviews of the CFPC and FAFM. This work positioned both organizations to evolve and align with best practices and supported the FAFM to become a multi-million-dollar charity.

During the pandemic, Dr. Lemire remained committed to focusing on members’ needs while adapting the organization to the new realities. Positive changes included flexible, remote work, sustaining collaborations with provincial Chapters and other medical organizations, and virtual meetings and conferences that reduced the College’s carbon footprint.

Boyden Canada has been retained to work with the CFPC to select Dr. Lemire’s successor and the process is underway. Enquiries may be directed to Pamela Colquhoun, Partner, at 416-716-7425 or [email protected].

On behalf of the CFPC Board, the FAFM, and CFPC staff, we extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Lemire for her admirable contributions to the College and to family medicine. The CFPC’s accomplishments over the past nine years reflect her dedication, hard work and passion. We look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Lemire while ensuring a smooth transition to the next CEO.

Sincerely,
