The Besrour Café is an online forum that hosts monthly real-time discussions involving Canadian and international partners on various topics of importance related to education and training in global family medicine, as identified by stakeholders. The Besrour Café facilitates regularly scheduled, thematically structured, peer-to-peer conversations in both English and French. It provides opportunities for ongoing mentorship and shared learning between partners and therefore acts as a potential incubator for new international partnerships and innovation within the global family medicine sphere.

The Besrour Centre partners with colleagues in different countries on multiple continents. To manage competing time zones and regional interests, the Besrour Café started as a 12-month pilot program in January 2020 in one region: Africa. The WONCA Africa Regional Conference, held in July 2019 in Kampala, Uganda, identified many shared challenges and interests among participants in the region related to family medicine education. The Besrour Café regional pilot program is therefore well timed for follow-up on discussions that started at WONCA Africa.

After the Besrour Café pilot program in the African region has been completed, the Besrour Centre will determine what possibilities exist for expanding to other continents and incorporating other Besrour Centre domains of interest, such as advocacy and research. Details and dates for upcoming Besrour Café sessions are available here.
