Every year, the QCFP organizes a full day of continuing development centred on a current theme. This is a unique opportunity to reflect on your practice, learn, and network with colleagues. The day concludes with a cocktail reception, where the QCFP Awards are presented. We will celebrate the passion, dedication, and excellence in family medicine.

ADHD in Practice: Treatment and management for family physicians
August 26, 2026, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. (ET) – Learn more and register
Family physicians may face uncertainty when initiating and managing treatment for ADHD, particularly in the presence of comorbid psychiatric conditions and limited access to specialist care. This session will focus on practical, evidence‑informed approaches to ADHD management. Participants will leave with greater clarity on how to support patients with ADHD and reduce gaps in access to appropriate care.

Clinical application of the long-term care fracture prevention recommendations for frail older adults

Long-term care (LTC) residents are more dependent, frail, and vulnerable, and require more complex care than community-dwelling older adults. Yet many interventions intended to reduce fracture risk are not used consistently in LTC. This program aims to address existing care gaps by illustrating the application of pharmacological and non-pharmacological fracture prevention recommendations with frail older adults in LTC.
Foundations of children’s mental health
October 7, 2026, 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. (ET) – Learn more and register
The Foundations of Children’s Mental Health is a case-based workshop designed to enhance participants’ knowledge, clinical skills, and confidence in assessing and managing mental health concerns in school-age children and adolescents. The session emphasizes early identification through use of evidence-based screening tools and introduces pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic management strategies. Attendees will also become familiar with practical tools and clinical resources that support management in primary and community care settings.
Osteoporosis and fracture prevention
October 14, 2026, 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. (ET) – Learn more and register
Osteoporosis and fractures in patients over 50 years of age go largely untreated. In this workshop, facilitators will provide you with best practices as outlined in the 2023 updated clinical practice guideline for management of osteoporosis and fracture prevention in Canada, and actionable tools for screening, diagnosing, and optimizing care.
A reflective follow‑up meeting will be available for participants approximately four weeks after the workshop. Attendance is optional, and those who participate will receive an additional Mainpro+® credit.

Recordings and resources from past Community of Practice sessions are available through our self-directed learning programs. Earn Mainpro+ credits at your convenience by reviewing video or audio recordings and accompanying materials, then simply complete a short survey.

The in-person event will bring together health leaders, creative thinkers, and trailblazers in family medicine and primary care to showcase best practices and innovations that are transforming and improving patient care.

The ACFP’s Thursday Evening Webinar series is back again this fall on September 24, 2026, 7:00 p.m. (MT) with the timely topic, “Physician Burnout.”
The series comes with a refreshed format designed to deepen learning experiences. It will feature themed topics delivered across connected sessions to give you the space to build on concepts from each session, reflect on your learning, and apply new insights directly within your clinical practice, all before the next session begins.
Sessions will incorporate dynamic educational components including workshops, small group discussions, individual reflection activities, assessments, and/or case-based learning designed to support real-world knowledge translation.

Announcing this quarter’s Circle of Impact recipient
We're excited to announce Dr. Greg Siren as this quarter’s recipient of the Empower Circle of Impact honour, celebrating excellence in teaching, education, and mentorship that advances family medicine.
Dr. Siren has developed and shared his myoActivation techniques with many of his family practice colleagues, including those working with Indigenous Peoples. This skill set enhances the ability to provide culturally safe and effective care for acute and chronic pain, a medication-free, low technology intervention that has proven life-changing for both patients and practitioners.
BCCFP Honoured National Indigenous History Month
Last June the BC College of Family Physicians honoured National Indigenous History Month by sharing stories of inequity, healing, and resilience from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Turtle Island. We shared resources to support physicians and communities and reaffirmed our acknowledgement of the harms and injustices that Indigenous people have experienced, and continue to experience, in the health care system.
