In Memoriam – Dr. Brian Hutchison
2024-08-23

Dr. Hutchison was a pioneer in family medicine research in Canada. His creativity and inquisitive mind contributed to his motivation to become formally trained to conduct research, the results of which made meaningful contributions to the field. His intellect and generosity of spirit drew patients, students, and colleagues to him and his work.
He dedicated much of his time to volunteer with the College, chiefly with the Section of Researchers, including as Chair of the Action Group for Advocacy in Research. Dr. Hutchison was honoured as one of the Top 20 Pioneers in Family Medicine Research, and in 2008 was the recipient of the CFPC Lifetime Achievement Award in Family Medicine Research.
Throughout his life, and up to his final days, he employed science to say “Family medicine matters. It is the cornerstone of a healthier and better society.”
His passing leaves a void among his colleagues and in family medicine, but we will never forget the legacy he leaves on our profession. We wish to express our deepest condolences to Dr. Hutchison’s family and friends.
