A group of eight national health organizations representing various health practitioners today sent a joint letter to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, the Hon. Jason Kenney, asking the Minister to rescind the planned cancellation of supplemental health benefits to refugee claimants under the Interim Federal Health Program. The cancellation of these health benefits is scheduled to occur June 30, 2012.

The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) congratulates Dr Janusz Kaczorowski and the Cardiovascular Health Awareness Program (CHAP) working group for their family medicine research paper that was a finalist in the Research Paper of the Year category at the British Medical Journal (BMJ) Group Improving Health Awards 2012 on May 23, 2012. Dr Kaczorowski is Professor and Director of Research, the Dr Sadok Besrour Chair in Family Medicine, and GSK-CIHR Chair in Optimal Management of Chronic Disease, Department of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine at the University of Montreal. The CHAP working group includes family medicine researchers Drs. Cheryl Levitt, Lisa Dolovich, and Tina Karwalajtys from McMaster University; Dr William Hogg at the University of Ottawa; and Dr Karen Tu at the University of Toronto.
