Advocacy Updates | October 27, 2025

The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) is your professional home and the voice of family medicine. We advocate for the profession and the discipline on your behalf.

Here's a look at the progress we've made so far:

• Less paperwork, more care. After sharing what we heard from nearly 800 family doctors , the Canada Pension Plan Disability form is being simplified , with many write-in sections becoming optional.
• ‘No’ to arbitrary panel sizes. We pushed back against Prince Edward Island’s proposed minimum panel rules , warning that overloaded practices hurt both doctors and patients. We continue to support these efforts.
• Concern about scope of practice expansion. We responded to the Ontario government's consultation on expanding prescribing rights of non-physician health professionals , urging caution and opposing fragmented care that patchwork prescribing leads to.
• Your voice on the Hill. This October we met with the federal Health Minister and MPs to lobby for increased training support for family doctors, reduced administrative burden , and targeted funding to launch new practices.

We’ll keep fighting for changes that value family physicians and strengthen family medicine.
