Help us recognize CFPC members whose contributions extend beyond the walls of their practice.

Family physicians contribute to their communities in many ways. They coach local sports teams, mentor young people, volunteer with community organizations, and quietly strengthen the places they call home.

Spotlight, a regular feature in ‘The Pulse’ in Canadian Family Physician (CFP), celebrates family physicians whose contributions extend beyond the walls of their practice. We want to share stories of family physicians who enrich their communities in simple, everyday ways that deserve to be recognized.

Who can be nominated?

We welcome nominations or self-nominations of CFPC members who hold Certification in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) and are actively involved in their communities.

This includes family physicians who:
  • Coach children’s or community sports teams, or themselves compete in sports/athletics
  • Volunteer with local charities or non-profit organizations
  • Mentor youth or community members
  • Organize neighbourhood events or community initiatives
  • Serve with service clubs or volunteer organizations
  • Support local arts, music, theatre, or cultural groups
  • Volunteer with schools, libraries, or community centres
  • Help seniors, newcomers, or other members of their community
  • Contribute in other meaningful ways that make their community a better place, such as via politics or other community leadership

These are just examples. If a family physician is making a positive difference in the lives of others outside of their clinical work, we’d love to hear their story.

Eligibility

Nominees should:
  • Be a CFPC member
  • Demonstrate community involvement
  • Provide a short bio and a high-resolution photograph if selected

What makes a good nomination?

The best nominations describe a family physician’s community involvement and contributions.

Please tell us:
  • What they do
  • Who benefits from their involvement
  • How they are making a difference
  • What makes their story noteworthy

You don’t need to write a long nomination. A few short paragraphs or a handful of bullet points are enough to get started, after which you can email your nomination to [email protected].

We encourage nominations from every region of Canada and from family physicians at every stage of their career. Spotlight aims to reflect the many communities and experiences that make family medicine unique. You can also nominate yourself.

How are physicians selected?

An internal team, which includes a family physician, reviews nominations throughout the year.

We’re not looking for the biggest achievements or the highest-profile accomplishments. We’re looking for authentic stories of family physicians whose generosity, commitment, and community spirit make a difference in the lives of others.

Although we can’t feature every nomination, we are grateful for every story shared with us.
