FAFM welcomes CMA Foundation’s $5 million donation to support family physicians and their patients through COVID-19 crisis

2020-04-22

(Mississauga, ON) The Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine (FAFM) is pleased to acknowledge the generous donation of $5 million from the Canadian Medical Association Foundation (CMAF) to support the FAFM’s COVID-19 Pandemic Response and Impact Grant (Co-RIG) program.

The Co-RIG program will support innovations in family medicine practices that maximize the effectiveness of care and the safety of family physicians and their teams. They may be new ways of working or of adapting current processes to meet demands created by the COVID-19 pandemic and provide the best possible care for everyone in Canada.

“On behalf of the FAFM Board, I want to express my gratitude to the CMA Foundation for its transformational support,” says Marie-Dominique Beaulieu, CQ, MD, CCFP, FCFP, Chair of the FAFM Board of Directors. “We are delighted to partner with them to lead strategic initiatives aimed at advancing innovation in family physicians’ clinical practices. Our partnership is one example of the goals our organizations share as we focus on supporting family physicians in providing the best care for all in these times of crisis.”

“COVID-19 will have an indelible impact on the health care system, and we will need to explore how we can truly innovate to continue delivering quality care in Canada,” says Allison Seymour, CMAF President. “We are thrilled to partner with the FAFM and to have the opportunity to contribute directly to innovations that will advance the practice of medicine and the delivery of care now and over the long term.”

This donation to the FAFM is part of the CMAF’s larger financial commitment of $20 million through targeted grants to help front-line health care workers, hospitals, medical schools, and Doctors Without Borders respond to the exceptional pressures the COVID-19 crisis has created.
