Alcohol is the drug with the greatest cost to Canadian society. Family physicians have an important role to play in treating patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD). This guide, available in English and French, assists family physicians with the long-term management of AUD, including treating withdrawal, prescribing medications to reduce alcohol use, and managing common problems such as anxiety and insomnia.
