Advocacy Updates | March 11, 2026

On February 27th, CFPC President Dr. Sarah Cook was in Ottawa for a nationally televised press conference and meetings with members of Parliament. The CFPC highlighted the foundational value of family medicine and called for federal action on:
- Launching the promised $300 million New Practice Fund to support new family practices
- Streamlining the Disability Tax Credit process to reduce administrative burden
- Providing long-term federal funding for AI scribes to ease documentation demands
Canada must move into 21st century connected care. Alongside partners from the Digital Health Interoperability Task Force, the CFPC urged the federal government to enforce interoperability standards, prevent data blocking, and demand vendor accountability.
We are encouraged by the introduction of the Connected Care for Canadians Act, which mandates seamless health data exchange across settings. The CFPC will continue to push timely passage of the Act, contributing a strong family medicine perspective to ensure it doesn’t result in additional burden to family doctors.
