Padraig Casey
I am a rural family physician in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island, where I provide comprehensive community-based care and lead a Patient Medical Home serving a growing population. Originally from Ireland, I completed my medical degree at Trinity College Dublin before pursuing postgraduate training in both internal medicine and family medicine. Since arriving in Prince Edward Island in 2017, I have become increasingly involved in medical education, physician leadership, and health system improvement.I currently serve as Site Director for the Dalhousie Family Medicine Residency Program on PEI and hold academic appointments with both Dalhousie University and Memorial University of Newfoundland. My educational interests centre on clinical supervision, faculty development, consultation skills, and social accountability in medical education. I recently completed a master’s in medical education through the University of Dundee, with research focused on family medicine resident supervision and the relationship between learner independence and competency development.
Throughout my career, I have been motivated by the belief that strong family medicine is essential to a sustainable health care system. This has led me to take on leadership roles within the Medical Society of Prince Edward Island, contribute to provincial primary care policy development, and advocate for the expansion of family medicine training opportunities in rural communities. I am particularly interested in lifelong learning, collaborative team-based care, and strengthening the pipeline of future family physicians.
I was honoured to receive the PEI College of Family Physicians’ Family Physician of the Year Award in 2023. As a potential CFPC Board member, I would bring the perspective of a rural clinician, educator, and health system leader who is passionate about supporting family physicians and ensuring that the College continues to advance excellence in family medicine, education, advocacy, and patient care across Canada.
