Advocacy Updates | September 23, 2026

With summer behind us and a busy fall ahead, we wanted to update you on how the CFPC is working on your behalf. Thanks to the ongoing support, feedback, and advocacy of members like you, we have seen meaningful progress on several long-standing issues affecting family physicians and family medicine.

Fair Compensation
Canada Pension Plan Disability (CPPD) Medical Report
Following CFPC advocacy and work with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), the new rate for the Canada Pension Plan Disability (CPPD) Medical Report started on September 1, 2026. Family physicians who complete a CPPD Medical Report will now be remunerated $175, up from $85. We are pleased to see our collaboration with ESDC yield tangible results, not only in securing fair compensation but also in driving changes to the form itself.

Red Tape Reduction
Disability Tax Credit (DTC) form
As a result of our continued work, this fall the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) plans to begin testing a redesigned Disability Tax Credit (DTC) form with family doctors and clients. The redesign will include the new list of more than 40 long-lasting medical conditions eligible for a streamlined DTC application. The CFPC continues to work to simplify this process as much as possible, reducing the burden it places on practising family doctors.
Financial Support for Family Doctors
The CFPC is delighted to see the Ontario government’s support for family physician residents through the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant for Medical Education. It provides retroactive funding for undergraduate medical education tuition, books, and other costs. The CFPC advocates for financial relief for family doctors. This is an exciting policy win for family physicians!

Funding of AI Scribes
The CFPC is calling on the federal government to honour its pledge to reduce administrative burden by fully funding AI scribes for all family doctors in Canada.

CFPC Leadership on Parliament Hill
CFPC leaders will be in Ottawa from October 5th to 6th, meeting with Members of Parliament to support Canada’s family doctors. A strong Canada includes high-quality medical care provided by a family doctor.
