International collaboration for better health
The Besrour Centre is a hub of international collaboration dedicated to advancing family medicine globally. Advancements come from education and training, building worldwide relationships, and research.
We advance medical education and training by:
- Supporting the development of family medicine academic programs
- Improving the training of family and generalist physicians
- Strengthening the teaching capacity of family medicine programs
We advocate for better primary care by:
- Developing national and international partnerships
- Bringing together global networks of experts and champions
- Leveraging family medicine to advance social accountability
We enable family medicine research and quality improvement by:
- Identifying and addressing the knowledge gaps of our partners
- Building research capacity
- Creating and disseminating knowledge of relevance to our partners and networks
Shaping a global vision for health
- Good health in life is paramount. Yet in many parts of the world, access to even the most basic services is infrequent or non-existent.
- Research proves that when primary care is well established, positive health outcomes, improved equity, and cost-effectiveness follows.
- In 2015 the United Nations’ 193 member states unanimously adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages, is the third goal on the list. Primary health care has been identified as key to this goal and Canada is a leader in this area.
