Important Mainpro+® updates for 2023

2023-05-15

Dear CFPC members and Mainpro+ participants,

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy new year and to provide you with some important Mainpro+ updates for 2023.

CPD Annual Report

Want to know how your peers are earning continuing professional development (CPD) credits? We’ve analyzed Mainpro+ data to report the most popular types of activities, uptake of College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) programs, and more to provide a snapshot of what Mainpro+ participants across the country are doing. View our Mainpro+ CPD Report for 2021–2022.

Annual Cycle Requirements

As a reminder the current cycle year runs from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023. During this time all Mainpro+ participants must earn and report 25 credits in any combination of certified or non-certified activities. As a tip, you can report hours spent on non-certified activities such as journal reading, teaching, or research as a bulk entry. This means you can report your journal reading for a six-month time frame in a single entry!

Five-Year and Two-Year Cycle Requirements

Mainpro+ participants who are in a five-year cycle must earn and report 250 credits, with at least 125 coming from certified activities.

Mainpro+ participants who are in two-year remedial cycle are expected to earn and report 100 credits, with at least 50 coming from certified activities. During a remedial cycle all certified Mainpro+ entries must include documentation (such as a certificate of attendance).

These requirements did not change as a result of the cycle extensions.

New Way to Claim International Activities

We have revamped our Request for Individual Consideration form and we are launching the International CPD Activities form!

This form is exclusive to international CPD conferences, online activities such as webinars or courses, or live events held outside Canada and the United States that are non-promotional in nature that participants believe are aligned with the CFPC's certification requirements. Please note that the CFPC reserves the right to award non-certified credits for activities that do not meet the minimum certification requirements.

You can find the form on your Dashboard under the Resources tab or under the Self-Learning, certified category by clicking “Enter a CPD Activity.”

Policy Update for Participants in a Remedial Cycle

Mainpro+ participants who are in a remedial cycle are now able to claim up to 25 Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada MOC Section 1 or Section 3 credits as Mainpro+ certified credits, and up to 25 American Medical Association PRA Category 1 credits as Mainpro+ certified credits. These entries must include documentation (such as a certificate of attendance). Previously, users in a remedial cycle were only able to claim these activities as non-certified credits.
