The Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine
The Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine (FAFM) was established in 1994 to better serve the future of family medicine. The Foundation is dedicated to advancing the discipline of family medicine through research and education initiatives.
The FAFM draws its support from CFPC members, non-members with an interest in family medicine, corporations, and foundations. CFPC membership support is critical to the FAFM's future successes for soliciting funds from outside the College. Advocacy for the FAFM provides credibility to the cause of promoting the need for family medicine research and education.
Every year, approximately $500,000 in donations and sponsorships help fund various awards, grants, and scholarships through the Joint CFPC and FAFM Honours and Awards (H&A) Program. These reach family physicians, medical students, and family medicine residents, and help support them in their studies, research, and clinical practices. Working closely together, the Joint CFPC and FAFM H&A Program support learning opportunities, continuing education initiatives, and research in family medicine across Canada.
